I’ve Become the “Old” Mom.

There’s no getting around it anymore. The girl-child is eighteen today. As my father told her, “You can vote for McCain now.” (If she does that I’m kickin’ her out of the house)

Lil Ducky. 18. *sigh*

I’m still tripping down memory lane:

I’m trying to pick the perfect song to accompany this post and I’ve come up with a few good ones such as Rosemary Clooney’s “Baby Mine” or “Turn Around” from the same album. Both cheesy which would be fine as I am the Cheese Queen but it’s a bit too cheesy even for me. I’ve settled on Beth Nielsen Chapman’s “Happy Girl”. In part:

Oh watch me go
I’m a happy girl
Everybody knows
That the sweetest thing you’ll ever see
In the whole wide world
Is a happy girl

Beth Nielsen Chapman-Happy Girl

That she is. My little ray of sunshine with an occasional thunder cloud. Hippo Birdies lil girl.

  1. oh MAN…. she can vote for Obama now!!!

(I’m just trying to negate that terrible think that your father accidentally put out into the universe…)

Its probably far too late, nearly 11pm your time, and I’m sure she’s out partying it up somewhere, but please tell her happy birthday from both Qiana and I.

Oh, and tell her that if she EVER votes Republican, I’ll take away her pom poms. :)

    love, sari

  2. actually she’s mad at me because i nixed the whole dancing in baltimore thing. she wanted to stay out all night. i told her to stay home to live another day.

i’ll give her your birthday wishes. :) if she votes republican, i’ll hit her with the pom poms and then you can take them away. :)

  3. Happy Belated Birthday to her!

At Easter dinner, I looked across the table at my oldest niece (17) who was doing some silly stuff with her napkin…and suddenly had a flashback to the moment my (then single) brother had told her on her 5th birthday it was time (he’d given her weeks of warning) to give up her ‘banky.’ And in that moment of remembering, I swear it felt like that had happened just yesterday…

  4. it does feel like that. time really does fly by. i know i’m going to sound silly but i miss them when they were little. we were a team the two kiddos and i. it’s hard to let that go. ah well.
