Saturday Outing

I escaped the house today with S. We were naughty lil kids. I left a hurricane-type upheaval in the family room-tree, ornaments, boxes, etc….all splayed on the floor. Tant pis. I took off to DC with Mr. Mr.

Hit the metro and took off for Pentagon City:

The lighting was bad even with a flash but you get the gist.

We then took off for a nice little Asian bistro for lunch where I had a perfect view of the skating rink in front of the restaurant. I was especially interested in the couple sitting at a bench talking, the woman quite animated and the gentleman, listening with rapture. I thought, “I wonder if they’re on one of those “Date Lab” dates from the Washington Post Magazine.” It did looked like a first date. She was tossing her hair, gesturing expansively, he seemed relaxed but very attentive at the same time, his gaze never wavered . Maybe I’m jaded after 25 almost 26 years of marriage but anyway, it looked like a first date to me. I didn’t have the guts to point and shoot directly at them so you get a generic shot of the rink.

Hit the office and worked on some stuff for S. Then, I finagled a book out of him at the nearby Borders. Payment for services rendered as I put it. I wandered through the books, lovingly touching each one, picking randomly, wondering if my book-picking radar was on point these days. I took my time finally choosing Julia Scheeres‘ “Jesus Land”.

I still got it. She’s awesome! The first few pages grabbed me, had me laughing and wishing I was plugged into the net via my phone cause I wanted to find out more about her. I read while riding the metro, snickering quietly from Pentagon City to New Carrollton. She’s wonderfully gifted in her writing. Maude-you need to get this book. I’ll send it to you if you’d like. You’d love it.

I stopped shooting photos because of the reading but the experience was great as usual. I love visiting this city, it really plays on my patriotic feelings. I thought of Marilyn after seeing some politico bobble-heads knowing that she’s reeling from the Iowa victory, I think she needs an Obama bobble-head. I’m on the hunt. ;)

T’was quite the fun day. Food, Mr. S., cruising the city…..I loved it!

Love to all, be good, be brave my keiki!

  1. What a great day! Oh, I have to get that book! I’d read a review some time back, but forgot about it–thx for the reminder. J thought I was nuts, but you should have been me last night watching the debates on a live stream from WMUR on the ‘net…then later on ABC in the bedroom…all while running back and forth to the computer to post comments on the BlogHer open thread. :)

  2. Marilyn, I’m so proud of you! I’m having a hard time with all of it. Maybe it’s because I’ve been jaded during the three years I’ve spent viewing our government at work, up close and personal.

Your enthusiasm is contagious though so I thank you for that. ;)
